Das Merch X Circular Economy

WHY DOES THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY WORK FOR US?

Let’s see what the circular economy means to the merch and how it affects our actions.

We’ve already talked about what Circular Economy is and how it works. Now we go one step further and want to explain our personal approach to the subject and why we want to integrate it step by step into our business model.

START WITH THE WHY

Why are we doing this? In short, because we can’t close our eyes to what’s happening in the world (sounds pompous but it’s true).

Our founder Klaus has been producing textiles with our sister label Vresh since 2012. We do not fool ourselves: fashion is in every sense a “dirty business”.

We don’t want to complain, but our disposable society has unfortunately made many people expect their t-shirt to cost less than their coffee to go. But this is not possible.

The big fashion labels, with their weekly new collections, make you forget what you do to the environment. Although Marie Kondo and Netflix kindly reminded us at the beginning of the year that we are questioning how we consume and live, rethinking is another way for our society. But also for us.

On average, every adult owns 95 garments (without underwear and socks). Every fifth garment (19%) is almost never worn!

STEP BY STEP

Since 2015 we cooperate with our textile producers in Portugal. As a result, we became something similar a family with our production partners. Clear that this change can only take place together with our partners. Therefore, it was not just about changing our business, but also theirs. After the first talks it was clear: we are there. Let’s take the next step together.

OUR CIRCULAR MERCHANDISE REVOLUTION

The discussions with our partners in Portugal have led to our first step towards the circular economy being the use of recycled materials.

The use of recycled textiles means:

. ZERO WASTE
. NO COLORING OF TEXTILES

. LESS EMISSIONS IN THE PRODUCTION PROCESS

For example, through the production of recycled materials 2700 liters less water consumed per T-shirt and that’s just amazing!

CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY

Here you can see a short summary of the key points that the circular economy in the field of textile production can and must tackle:

THIS IS ONLY THE START OF THE MERCHANDISE REVOLUTION

We are working on the concept to improve it everyday. However, it was important for us to offer you and your brand as quickly as possible more sustainable textiles than before. But we still have a long way to go, because sustainability has become an increasingly important topic in our production processes. However, the use of recycled raw materials and production directly in Europe is the first important step.
